Vision

Cornerstone Christian Fellowship is a primarily student-led campus fellowship that seeks to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Purdue-Lafayette-West Lafayette area. Listed below are beliefs that make up the core of our ministry.

We believe that…

  • …there exists a supreme God who created the heaven and earth.
  • …the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and that its teaching applies to the past, present, and will apply to the future.
  • …this same God created humans in order to have a loving relationship with them.
  • …humans sinned and were thus alienated from God.
  • …despite their sin, God still desired a loving relationship with them.
  • …God sent His son Jesus Christ to die as a sacrifice, atoning for the sins of humans.
  • …Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead and later ascended into heaven.
  • …Jesus commissioned his followers to spread the Good News.

We believe the Good News is that…

  • …you are God’s creation, once one with Him, but now apart from Him through our sinful nature as humans.
  • …God sent His son Jesus Christ to die on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of all humans, including you.
  • …all who believe in their heart and confess in example, that Jesus Christ came to die for their sins, and that He is their savior, are justified before God and will receive eternal life in heaven with Him.
  • …all who believe and confess the previous (3) experience transformed lives and will be sanctified at God’s pace in preparation for eternal life with Him.

As a fellowship on campus, our meetings are all planned in light of these beliefs as we seek to grow as Christians and tell others of what being a Christian is all about. If you continue to read about our gatherings in the Cornerstone meetings section, you’ll see we try to parallel them with our beliefs above. As a Christian, we understand that there are many questions you may have, and we encourage them. The place you go to be fed spiritually is an important decision, and it is important that we keep our churches/fellowships accountable for what they teach. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at cornerstone.cf@gmail.com.

Fellowship Structure

To give you an idea of how our fellowship operates, here is an overview of our structure.

General Coordinator

The general coordinator is the overall leader of the fellowship. This person is responsible for delivering Sunday messages and for setting and adjusting Cornerstone’s yearly vision. The needs of the fellowship change periodically and the general coordinator will make the final decisions regarding study material/sermon topics/etc.

Program Coordinator

This person is responsible for helping the general coordinator set the vision for the fellowship. A lot of work goes into setting a vision, but this person’s primary responsibility is to carry out a plan to see the vision come to life. This person keeps the fellowship updated on announcements, acts as the student president, and oversees all the activities of the fellowship.

Small Group Leaders

For those who participate in Bible studies, these people will “oversee” the weekly Bible study groups. With a movement to a more member-responsible small group, these people are responsible for being discussion leaders within the Bible study time. This is only possible if small group members come to Bible study with the necessary preparation (i.e. Reading the Bible study, answering certain questions, etc.).
In the past, these people have been called to watch over each and every need of a 15 person group. This is an unnecessary burden to carry. Our objective with our Bible study groups is to encourage each and every small group member to take initiative in their own spiritual lives, rather than one person being responsible for seeing 15 people grow. This will be different, but we believe it is absolutely necessary. After college, there will be no small group leader to check up on you every day. If you haven’t developed an ability to be responsible for your own spiritual life by then, things will only become harder for you spiritually.

Ministry Leaders

These people are responsible for planning events in light of the purpose of their ministries. This gives our fellowship an opportunity to pursue certain passions that may exist within our faith. If you love sports and you want to use it as a way to fellowship, then it would be good to support the sports ministry. If you heart breaks at the thought of the spiritually lost, then getting involved in missions ministry would be a good idea. These will change from time to time as people within the fellowship come and go with their different passions. For this year, we have the following:

  • Sports Ministry
  • Worship Ministry
  • Welcoming Ministry

That is a general overview of Cornerstone. We encourage you to check around the rest of the web site to familiarize yourself with our people, events, and any other information we can offer. Once again, if you have any questions, send us an e-mail at cornerstone.cf@gmail.com.
